It is a process Student at UFM Architecture and Design School are being taught from their freshman year. It is not an easy subject to grasp on theory but can be mastered by practice. On September 13th, I was invited to review design fundaments II class attempt to disrupt. I was impressed of the UFM School of the design Faculty understanding the importance of the matter and strategically inviting an unbiased evaluator of disruption. As they explained, faculty interacts daily with the students; an outsider would bring more objectivity to the evaluation.
Personally I was excited to collaborate. Last year, I observed how a manager negatively affected an organization at a high economical cost by lacking experience on utilizing disruption methodologies. On September 13th’s presentations at UFM, we evaluated 17 projects, on which students experienced firsthand the process of creating new products based on applying disruption. The final products and the skills these young designers developed by practice were amazing. I am sure in the future these designers will bring benefits to their organizations as they had the experience to practice disruption on a controlled environment.
Disruption is about adjusting functional systems to current or near future requirements. UFM School of Design has created the right environment for future designers to understand how disruption methodology works and when and how it should be applied. After all, the future requires positive disruption.
